Larimar is an exceptionally rare gemstone found only in a remote region of the Dominican Republic. Discovered in 1974, it was named by combining 'Larissa,' the discoverer's daughter's name, with the Spanish word 'mar,' meaning sea. Larimar is an extremely rare stone found only in a specific mountainous region of the Dominican Republic. It was discovered in 1974 by a local named Miguel Méndez, who combined his daughter's name, "Larissa," with the Spanish word for sea, "Mar," to create the beautiful name "Larimar."
